Salary Grade:  N09        From:  $107,373.00  To:  $134,216.00

Job Summary:

The Enterprise Architect is responsible for the development of strategic directions for I&IT including the development of architectural viewpoints, models, roadmaps and designs to map out and evolve components of the WSIB enterprise architecture.  This requires the completion of comprehensive business transformation and architecture assessments as well as complex reviews in support of system/infrastructure needs.

This position is responsible for understanding WSIB’s business, application, data/information, security and technology portfolio and the effective integration of solutions into the broader business and IT ecosystem.
The Enterprise Architect defines, evaluates and develops architecture policies, standards, guidelines and best practices and ensures compliance with WSIB and industry standards.

Major Responsibilities:

Enterprise Architecture

  • Leads development of enterprise architecture/architectural blueprints, enterprise reference architectures, technology roadmaps that will be leveraged in an integrated fashion across the WSIB.
  • Communicates and promotes a shared vision of the WSIB’s enterprise architecture in partnership with the Director and senior IT leadership team.
  • Collaborates in the development of the WSIB IT Strategy and IT strategic plan to ensure ongoing alignment between business outcomes and IT capabilities.
  • Collaborates/consults with business leaders to develop and present business and technology models and roadmaps to facilitate decision making with stakeholders across the enterprise.
  • Provides expert guidance/advice and participates in IT governance activities to ensure strategic directions in IT investments are aligned with outcomes set out in business and IT strategies as well as to enterprise roadmaps.
  • Consults with IT Cluster leaders to ensure consistency and alignment with the enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.
  • Leads the analysis of business’ future state capabilities, operating models and future IT ecosystems to detect critical deficiencies; makes strategic recommendations to business and IT leaders to rationalize business and technical services considering cost effectiveness, strategic business alignment and IT risk mitigation objectives.
  • Develops models that are enterprise impacting and strategic in perspective (e.g., defining future state operating models, business process re-engineering, application rationalization).
  • Completes for impact and risk assessments and presents results to executive committees (e.g., Business Steering Committees, IT Leadership, Portfolio Governance Committee) to explain impacts and influence strategic investment decisions.
  • Leads cross functional team of subject matter experts in the development of strategic and enterprise architectures.
  • Analyses, defines, evaluates and recommends enterprise architecture requirements across the various architecture domains, for large scale/enterprise wide IT systems in order to optimize effectiveness and reuse of architecture, patterns, IT components / services. Participates in/conducts feasibility studies, architecture reviews of new IT systems or modification / redevelopment of legacy systems.
  • Reviews and provide recommendations regarding exceptions to architectural standards and IT policies at an enterprise level.
  • Leads the analysis, development and evaluation of new directions and options for architecture, in        
    order to recommend policy and standards which are consistent with diverse corporate and client needs, strategies, directions and resources.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Develops an enterprise view of WSIB’s organization, processes, and technology and how they can be leveraged for continuous improvement
  • Analyses and understands IT industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on WSIB’s enterprise architecture and the organization as a whole
  • Researches and evaluates emerging technologies working in collaboration with the WSIB Innovation team.
  • Participates and collaborates in technology experiments, to assess new products and services opportunities that solve business problems and are aligned to the business strategies.
  • Develops and presents proposals/business cases for architecture projects.

Relationship Building

  • Develops and maintains relationships with IT managers, senior client management and business stakeholders to promote enterprise architecture; consults with vendors, consultants and peers in the broader IT community and in other jurisdictions to address system-wide issues, risk mitigation approaches and development opportunities.
  • Contributes to WSIB’s strategic and operational planning process by providing strategic advice and recommendations to Branch leadership
  • Develops and maintains a network of WSIB and external contacts (e.g. private sector, other jurisdictions, academe, vendors) participating in various forums such as senior level committees and working groups to exchange information, discuss issues, provide expertise, identify best practices, collaborate on shared interests, represent and uphold the viewpoints of the IT organization and maintain knowledge of current state enterprise architecture views.
  • Participates in leadership level committees evaluating new products and services; selection and use of architecture frameworks and methodologies;
  • Provides expert advice and technical expertise and makes presentations to senior level management to discuss IT strategies and roadmaps, identify and recommend resolution of complex systems issues and gain buy-in for approaches and opportunities.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor and builds and maintains relationships with other IT leaders and enterprise senior leaders to develop a clear understanding of needs.

1) Education requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related discipline or equivalent
  • Master’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related discipline or equivalent
  • Demonstrated understanding of industry standards, architecture frameworks and methodologies including TOGAF, Zachman, FEA Frameworks.
  • Specific certifications considered an asset include TOGAF, IASA - IT Architect

2) Experience:

Minimum Experience Required

  • 8-10 years of experience in Architecture with demonstrated expertise in one or more architecture domains such as business, information/data, application/integration, technology, security
  • At least 3 years as an Enterprise Architect

Preferred Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in Architecture with demonstrated expertise in one or more architecture domains such as business, information/data, application/integration, technology, security
  • At least 5 years as an Enterprise Architect
